Bands to listen to this Summer vol. 2 - Stornoway

Continuing on the folk-theme... Oxford indie-folk band, Stornoway deserve your attention. Ambitious harmonies, back-to-basics instrumentation and a certain lyrical naiveté that reminds me of Nizlopi. I promise you though, Stornoway are a lot better than Nizlopi.

Here is their first single, Zorbing (hence the above photograph)

Their album, Beachcomber's Windowsill, is a thing of relaxed beauty. They have mastered the art of melancholic lyrics over a jolly melody that makes Duke Special such a great songwriter. My personal favourite is 'Fuel Up', a musical reconsideration of the thoughts going through the head of a 9 year-old in the back of a car. Like I said: like Nizlopi, but better.

You can listen to their entire album on Spotify here.

Or better yet, buy it on iTunes or Amazon.
